Program of your Kayak adventure
We drive from Paramaribo by bus to the Brokopondo Lake officially named prof.dr.ir.W.J. van Blommenstein meer. On the way to the Lake, the guide tells us about the area in district Brokopondo we drive through: the population as well as the economic activities such as gold, wood, gravel, and tourism. The Brokopondo is a reservoir of about 1560km²! The giant lake was created by the construction of the Afobakkadam in the Suriname River. A big area of land that had been flooded.
At Afobakkadam we put the kayaks in the water and we sail past the dam to take some pictures of this mega waterwork. We paddle around some small islands and explore the area. Enjoy the view and the peace. By paddling between the dead trees, you can also view the resting bird from up close. We sail around comfortably and stop at an island. We have fishing equipment, lunch package, and hammocks with us. You can choose to go fishing on Piranha, swim in the lake, or relax in the hammock. Lunch we will enjoy together. After about 4 hours being on the lake, we drive back to Paramaribo by car.
This trip will last about 8 -10 hours.

DO YOU NEED TO BE IN TOP CONDITION?
No, anyone with a normal condition and good health can participate in this kayak trip. It is not a race and the intention is to enjoy the special environment in an active way.
WHAT KIND OF KAYAK IS USED?
For this trip, we use the new Tarpon 160 Sit on Top kayaks. The flat bottom in the cockpit ensures a stable boat, while its length and shallow draft ensure sufficient speed. The boat has a comfortable backrest, sufficient luggage space for multi-day expeditions, two cockpit hatches and a large oval hatch. Length 4.27 meters / width 71 cm / weight 28 kg, in short the ideal boat for this trip!
SHOULD I BUY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT?
Most of the equipment is made available by Bicycles in Suriname, but if you have doubts about your equipment, please call us. You will receive an extensive packing list when booking.
IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT?
In principle, we do not use an age limit. We find it much more important that you have a flexible attitude and team spirit. This is a trip through a rugged and uninhabited area where there is a chance that, due to weather circumstances, we have to divert from the planned route.
