Surinamese Pilgrimage Roundtrip in 12 days
During this cultural tour, you will visit different churches and temples in Suriname. Go by boat to a Pilgrimage village and listen to the fascinating story of Priest Peerke Donders. Walk on the Seawall and taste fresh tropical fruit on the local market in Nieuw Nickerie. Go bird watching on the Bigi Pan lake during the boat safari through the mangrove. Experience the Maroon culture and relax in a jungle resort. Visit Joden savanna a former Jewish community and the ruins of the first Synagogue that has an interesting history. See the new Synagogue in Paramaribo that is situated peacefully beside a mosque.

Program visiting different churches and a pilgrim village
Day 1: The starting point is Schiphol Airport from here you fly directly to Paramaribo. At the airport Johan Adolf Pengel, you will be picked up and transferred to your hotel in Paramaribo. Dinner at your own expense.
Day 2: In the morning you will attend a church service. You sleep in the hotel in Paramaribo.Lunch and dinner at your own expense.
Day 3: You will go by bus and boat to Danpaati River Lodge, on the Upper- Suriname River. You will arrive there around 14.00. You will sleep at the resort.
Day 4: Walk with a guide through village Dan. Village Dan is inhabited by the Maroons from the Saramacca tribe. Here you will attend a church service. You will sleep at the resort.
Day 5: Early in the morning you pack your stuff, say goodbye, and get in the boat and bus and go back to Paramaribo. The trip will last around 7 hours. You will spend the night at the hotel in Paramaribo. Dinner at your own expense.
Day 6: After breakfast, you will visit by bus a former Jewish settlement in Joden Savanna. See the ruins of a Synagogue, graveyards, and a well. Dinner at your own expense.
Day 7: Today you leave for 4 days to the Western part of Suriname. At the Coppename bridge, you go by boat to a Pilgrimage village. Back on the road, you continue your way with the bus to district Coronie, where you will spend the night in an apartment.
Day 8: You continue your journey to Bigi Pan. First on the Nickerie river by boat and through the Djamal creek to the Bigi Pan. Here you will spend the night.
Day 9: Before breakfast, you depart by boat on the lake for bird watching. Back at your camp, you pack up to go to Nieuw Nickerie. Here you will visit a temple. You spend the night in Nieuw Nickerie in an apartment.
Day 10: In the morning you will attend a church service. After the service, you go by bus back to Paramaribo. You will arrive in about 4 hours at the hotel in Paramaribo. Dinner at your own expense.
Day 11: Fly back to Amsterdam. Transportation to the international airport will be provided.
Day 12: Arrival in Amsterdam.

Changes can be made to the program depending on the weather and the water level of the river.
The Pilgrimage tour is only on the last Saturday of the month.

ACCOMMODATION
On Paramaribo, we use different hotels and apartments. The rooms each have a private bathroom with hot and cold water and are air-conditioned. Breakfast is provided and is included. The different accommodations usually have an (indoor/outdoor) swimming pool or ‘plunge pool’ so that you can take a refreshing dive. There is wifi in the accommodation, so you can keep in touch with the home front online. It is possible to leave luggage temporarily when you make a multi-day tour from Paramaribo. When you return with a backpack full of dirty laundry, you can usually do your laundry for a small fee. Do you want more luxury in Paramaribo? Then we can tailor a proposal for a 4 hotel. You can indicate this with your application.
