Program of your visit to Plantation Frederiks dorp
The plantation started in 1747 as a coffee plantation where 100 slaves were employed. It is located on the right bank of the Commewijne River and can only be reached by boat. The first owner was a German from Prussia, Johan Friedrich Knöffel, after whom this plantation and presumably the Kuffelsgracht in Paramaribo is named. After the abolition of slavery in 1863 Frederiksdorp became a cacao plantation.
There is a lot to do and see on this plantation because it is surrounded by old plantations, cycle and hiking trails, sea beaches, mangrove forests, birds, and dolphins. The guided excursions that can be made are; walking and bicycling to the village of Rust and Werk, make a boat tour to spot Dolphins or Sea turtles or visit the swamps. The activities are organized from the lodge. The guide indicates when the activity takes place.
Transport is arranged centrally by the resort. From the meeting point in Paramaribo, you and other guests are taken to Mariënburg. Here you board a boat to Frederiksdorp. All meals are included and you only pay for your drinks on the spot.
